To provide our guests a unique and more responsible experience, we focus particularly on the following four points:
We are aware of the disastrous effects of plastic production and use, especially in the hospitality sector. Therefore, we are constantly seeking new ways to reduce this usage; for example, all our lodges are equipped with filtered water bottles made of glass, to avoid excessive use of plastic bottles.
Huma Terra has chosen sustainable energy for its lodges by installing solar panels across the property. Our goal is to become 100% self-sufficient in terms of electricity.
We are committed to diversifying the local economy by employing teams from the region. In doing so, we aim to encourage local communities to showcase their skills and supplement their income. For instance, Vikunsiri and Lalitha, a couple living 200 meters from Huma Terra, ensure the quality of the premises so that you have a unique experience.
To showcase Sri Lankan craftsmanship and the work of local populations, we have made a point of decorating Huma Terra with art objects and antiques found in the region. In this continuity, the furniture and some decorations were created by local artisans.
We have chosen to focus on the local food network to support local harvests and develop our own ingredients on-site. Indeed, Huma Terra sources its tea from the nearest factory. Additionally, we are surrounded by rice fields, allowing us to be self-sufficient in rice. Moreover, thanks to the development of our organic vegetable garden, we hope to soon become self-sufficient in vegetables. All our harvests are then used by our chef. Products that we cannot produce directly on-site are sourced from local fishermen and farmers in the region.
At Huma Terra, we are committed to helping you discover a place nestled in the Sri Lankan nature, respectful of its environment and local communities. As a tourism stakeholder, we are aware of our key role in developing a more sustainable and responsible tourism. Sri Lanka is a diverse country with many aspects, and we strive to protect its natural and human resources. Thus, we constantly seek to reduce our negative impacts on these resources and to highlight the locals and their environment as best as we can.
